KitchenAid Dishwasher Not Cleaning Properly? Here Are the Most Common Problems We See in Toronto households

KitchenAid Dishwasher Not Cleaning Properly

We hear this all the time - “My dishes are not clean like they used to” “my dishwasher is not drying my dishes” “I hear loud grinding noises when the dishwasher is running” and the classic “The cycle is done but the dishes are still dirty”.

Let’s go through some probable causes, troubleshooting and some DIY fixes you can go through before calling us - your favorite local appliance repair professionals.

Circulation Pump Isn’t Working

Circulation pump failure might be the most common issue with KitchenAid dishwashers.

What this usually looks like:

  • Your KitchenAid dishwasher starts but the water is not spraying inside the tub.

  • Dishes come out dirty, even after a full cycle

  • You see water just sitting at the bottom if you are opening the door mid cycle

  • Loud grinding noises when dishwasher enters wash cycle

Try cleaning the dishwashers spray arms, then resetting the dishwasher from the breaker and try again.

If the issue persists give us a call at 647-424-1316 so we can discuss circulation pump replacement or any other alternatives.

Heating Element Isn’t Heating

The heating element is responsible for getting the water hot enough to clean and dry your dishes. When it fails, you’ll notice things just aren’t coming out right.

What you might notice:

  • Dishes feel cool at the end of the cycle

  • Dishes are wet, even though the drying cycle completed

  • Your detergent pod didn’t fully dissolve

  • A broken or damaged heating element

Try resetting your dishwasher from the breaker for a few minutes and restarting the cycle.

Faulty Water Inlet Valve

If the water inlet valve is stuck open or leaking, your dishwasher might overfill with water and leak - or even run water when it’s off.

Common signs:

  • You press start but water doesn’t flow inside the dishwasher.

  • Constant buzzing or humming noise when starting the cycle but no flow or low flow of water.

  • In some cases the valve is cracked and leaking which will not allow the user to start the dishwasher.

  • Common error codes that are valve related are 6-1, E1, F6E1, F6E2 and F8E1.

Faulty Dispenser

If the cycle is done and the dispenser hasn’t opened - your dishes might have not been washed properly.

Common signs:

  • The cycle is done but the dispenser is not open and the pod has not been dissolved.

Make sure nothing is blocking the dispenser door from opening.
Try resetting the cycle after rearranging the dishwasher (Press start or ON/OFF button for 3 seconds) and then choose your cycle again.
