How Much Does Appliance Repair Cost in Toronto & the GTA?
A straight, honest breakdown of what drives the price — and how to make sure you never get hit with a surprise bill.
If you’ve searched “how much does appliance repair cost,” you already know the frustrating answer most sites give: “it depends.” True — but not helpful. So here’s what actually drives the price, and how to make sure the number you’re quoted is a fair one.
The two parts of any repair bill
Almost every appliance repair comes down to two things:
1. The service call / diagnostic
A technician comes out, diagnoses the exact problem, and gives you a firm quote. Reputable companies charge a set fee for this — and most, including us, apply that fee toward the repair when you go ahead.
2. Labour + parts
Once the problem is diagnosed, you get one upfront price covering the work and any parts needed — and you approve it before anything is done.
What drives the cost of a repair
Two “fridge not cooling” jobs can cost very different amounts. Here’s why:
- The appliance. A microwave or a basic dryer repair is usually simpler (and cheaper) than a built-in fridge or a high-end range.
- The part. A door switch or thermostat is inexpensive; a compressor, control board, or sealed-system repair is far more.
- The brand. Parts for mainstream brands (Whirlpool, GE, Maytag, LG, Samsung) are widely available and sensibly priced. Luxury and European brands (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Miele, Bosch) can have pricier, specialized parts.
- Genuine vs. generic parts. Genuine (OEM) parts cost a bit more but protect your warranty and last longer.
- Access and complexity. A built-in or stacked unit that has to be pulled out and re-installed takes more time than a freestanding one.
When a repair isn’t worth it
A good technician will tell you when not to repair. Our rough rule of thumb: if the repair costs more than about half the price of a comparable new appliance — and the unit is older or has other issues brewing — replacement may be the smarter money. We’ll always give you that honest read rather than just selling you a repair. Here’s our full guide on repair vs. replace.
How to avoid surprise repair bills
- Ask for the service-call fee and whether it applies to the repair before you book.
- Get the full price in writing before work starts — never “we’ll see when we’re done.”
- Ask if they use genuine parts and whether the work is warrantied.
- Be wary of a firm quote given over the phone without seeing the appliance — a real diagnosis comes first.

Frequently asked questions
Do you charge before you tell me the price?
No. We diagnose the problem first, then give you one upfront price to approve. Nothing is done until you say yes.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace an appliance?
If the repair is less than about half the cost of a comparable new unit, repair is usually the better value — especially on newer appliances. We’ll give you an honest recommendation.
Do you use genuine parts?
Whenever possible, yes — genuine (OEM) parts protect your warranty and last longer.
What appliances and brands do you repair?
All major appliances — fridges, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, dishwashers, and microwaves — across every major brand. See our full appliance repair FAQ.
